Quality & Quantity Q & A

posted by enigin in Uncategorized

Welcome to the second installment of our Quality vs Quantity blog entries, you may wish to read the previous entry before you venture on…

Maybe you noticed the change in heading, quality and quantity. Thats because once you have a high standard of quality information or products, its then time to be generous with sharing it, of course quality is unquestionably most important, but the right amount of quantity is also essential, hence here is part two of our candid Enigin Distributor Interview, enjoy…

Q: How is the recession affecting your business?
A: We are one of the few businesses out there that will benefit greatly from the recession and that simply because it forces business owner’s hand in terms of making them do something about cost cutting and one of the ways to do that is cutting their energy wastage.
Q: What initial success have you had?
A: Starting at every new business is very hard but we did is we started over a period of time and we gave ourselves a very easy first quarter not expecting to make any sale or close any deals. And we found that with our new sales team on the road, we closed our first agreement with a customer within three weeks which was way beyond even my best expectations. It’s fair to say it’s hard work all the way along but who wouldn’t expect that to be the case, but we are making success and we are [banging] on target with our plans.
Q: How does it feel to be running a business that is doing something positive towards climate change?
A: At the end of the day, we are all in this to make money. I had no aspirations to start a charity – I would approach that differently – but it does feel good to be able to talk to colleagues, peers and friends and say that, “We are doing something positive at the same time as we are earning our living.”
Q: How does it feel to be in the green business?
A: I think it’s to the point where “we can profit with integrity” is a line that’s used commonly within the Enigin business and I think that really rings true. We all have to earn our crust somehow and it’s nice to be able to do it in a way that it’s benefiting not only myself and my team but the planet and other individuals.
Q: What advice would you give to anyone considering an Enigin partnership?
A: Be aware it can be very rewarding and stick with it.

A hearty thank you to our busy Distributor who took the time to share his story with us and highlight that working with a quality partner like Enigin pays dividends.

Quality not Quantity Q & A

Everything is communication, letters, emails, webpages, adverts, maybe even in blogs! And as an avid energy saver and blog reader, you will know that there is endless information available out in the big bold web its only the quality that varies. Here at Enigin PLC we make great efforts that you not only receive enough information but that it is of a high standard. We believe in delivering quality, products and content. Why so?

Its like the old adage ‘buy cheap buy twice’ and I am a firm believer, buying quality is actually an investment, a quality vehicle, for example requires less maintenance and hence often overall lower running costs. Buying a quality garment to wear will last longer and actually ‘pay off’ the original investment. Many of us live by these principles in life as they just make sense. So producing quality products, just works better, it creates better business relationships, satisfied customers and more profitability.

Simply stated Enigin and its team believe in quality, but we don’t expect you to take our word for it, as with any quality testing you need to see it for yourself. With that in mind here is part one of a open interview with one of our Distributors. The conclusions you make yourself.

Q: How does it feel like to be running an Energy Saving Business?
A: We look at the news headlines everyday and hear about climate change, about the recession and subjects like that each day, it makes me feel more and more comfortable being involved in an area like this. The news headlines talk about the energy saving business being one of the biggest growth industries on the planet.
Q: What do you feel about the Energy Saving Products that Enigin Offer?
A: I think they’re excellent. Most importantly, I think that the people that we’re meeting with think they’re excellent. It’s kind of irrelevant what I think. It’s whether our potential customers are impressed by them and they are.
Q: What do you think about the support you get from Enigin?
A: The support I get is fantastic. We have the benefit of being in close proximity to the team and we’re able to get immediate answers to our questions.
Q: What response are you receiving from potential customers?
A: The response is absolutely fantastic. We are cold–calling businesses in our catchment area and, normally, people are quite hard to cold-calls but actually people are very keen to meet us; they’re very keen to cut their costs, they’re very keen to do their piece for the environment and they want to meet with us. When we meet with people, we talk through very briefly what we do and we’re finding—the first stage of our discussions is obviously to try and understand their needs and their aspirations. And these people want to cut costs. They want to reduce their energy usage and wastage. And very often, they want us to the people that help them with that. It’s very positive.

Enigin Saving Energy

Here in the actual Enigin HQ, we are always looking at ways to cut down our carbon footprint, whether its for our own office or developing new products that may benefit other industries.

In every room we have the Enigin ‘Light Energy Saver System’ (LESS) which senses how light the room is, particularly when its bright outside, and adjusts the light fittings accordingly.  I particularly like this feature as I am not a big fan of artifical light but this system works alongside the natural lighting outside which is a good thing to have.

Another bonus to this is that by using less artifical lighting, we are using less electricity and therefore making a significant saving on how much the office costs to run.

Seven Wonders of the World

There was a TV programme on recently in the UK which covered a series of “an Idiot”, as the man was termed, travelling around the world to visit the seven wonders. It was a funny programme, and in some ways he really was “an Idiot”, but it was also very interesting and quite enlightening about these different places.

He was sent on his own to these different countries by a couple of friends who had arranged everything for him, his accommodation, transport and days out. One interesting thing about the programme was that in many ways he explored areas and things that most tourists wouldn’t actually do or see, but there were also aspects which would be experienced by the public if they visited such places.

Water Energy

Did you know of the technologies already available for energy development from water?

Water energy sources can be a way to supply energy without producing any harmful emissions and greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Some types of water energy sources include tides, waves, currents and others.

Much is actually captured underwater, but how?

Weather - climate linked?

posted by enigin in Uncategorized

I’ve been wondering of late what is happening with our British weather.  Firstly, we had the snow at the beginning of the year that brought the UK to a standstill.  Here at Enigin HQ, the majority of staff were stuck at home due to dangerous driving conditions.  Although it was fun for the first couple of days, its wasn’t so when supplies started drying up as the stores couldn’t restock their shelves.

Apparently it cost the economy up to £690 million a day and up to £14.5 billion in lost business due to missed orders, lost trade from shoppers staying at home and the costs of workers failing to turn up.

And just recently the volcano ash has affected all flights in and out of the UK.   Am I the only one thinking these natural disasters seem to be occurring more and more often?  Or is it just its always happened but the media expose it on a greater scale now?

Enigin - certainty in uncertain times

Here at Enigin HQ, the Enigin team find it important to keep up to date with the latest news and issues affecting our climate and the field we work in.

As the Enigin Office Manager, I have been intrigued by what is happening in Copenhagen with the climate summit which is now in full swing.  Delegates from 192 countries are aiming to reach a new treaty on climate change.  Some might argue that this couldn’t have happened at a worse time with the UN launching an investigation into the recent ‘Climategate’ scandal.

These claims that UK scientists manipulated global warming data to support the theory that it is man made does nothing for the scientific world’s reputation.  The public are now very sceptical, unable to determine who are corrupt and biased and who have actually investigated climate change honestly.

When it comes to energy consumption; Enigin presents the facts in a very clear, uncomplicated format.  Our Eniscope offers real-time monitoring on your energy consumption with an easy to use interface to show you exactly what you’re using at any time.  Instantly you can spot trends and wastage - how you use this information is up to you but it’s your decision - it allows you to be in control of your carbon footprint, where as before all you could do is rely on what people tell you.

The Enigin Move

posted by enigin in Uncategorized

I have been working for Enigin now for nearly three years and see how it has progressed from a small company up to a 30 person strong team.  I turned up on my first day at work to a completely empty office which was one of my first tasks at Enigin.

I have kitted out three Enigin offices now and every time we move, it is a bigger mission as we have more employees and therefore more stuff.  In the early days, it was relatively straight forward - everyone was given a box for their possessions, this was labelled and handed out at the other side.  But as we’ve expanded, there has been more equipment to install and more employees to seat and usually a very tight timeframe to get everything up and running.  Trying to achieve this whilst causing as little disruption as possible to the other employees is quite a challenge.

It doesn’t matter that there’s a big move taking place; appointments and telephone conferences must still be kept, computers only shut down for a short period of time and the all important tea and coffee constantly flowing.

Although I find it quite stressful moving offices (it’s pretty much the same as moving house), it is also exciting to see how far Enigin has progressed where we’re at the stage we need to move to larger premises.  And once everyone is settled and everything is working smoothly again, if I’m able to take a step back and look at what’s been achieved, it’s a very good feeling.
